Unfortunately, Helvetica is a commercial font, and is not available for free. You can buy versions of it from each of the major font foundries or online font shops, such as www.myfonts.com. There is a large number of Helvetica look-alikes, Arial is the best known of these. You can learn a bit more here: http://desktoppub.about.com/cs/fonts/f/helvetica_where.htm (and this site also lists a large number of the look-alikes, imitators, and similar fonts).

I think some Helvetica fonts come with the Adobe Type Manager? Or maybe I got mine with a version of PageMaker?  

It seems adobe has changed how you download that... you have to fill out a form!
