Helvetica is a commercial font available from Adobe. You can purchase it for download at the following site:

http://www.adobe.com/type/main.html

Helvetica is not free, and anyone who offers to give it to you for free is engaging in piracy. Piracy violates the ground rules of Experts Exchange as well as violates the law.

Most PCs have a Helvetica look-alike called Swiss already installed on their system. Microsoft has its look-alike called Arial. Bitstream produces Zurich which comes bundled with many print and graphics programs like those produced by Corel.

Arial is the most similar font compare them and you will see that they are almost the same

not the same but very very very similar

Yeah i would go with Arial as a substitute. Theyre so close that most typesetters cant even tell the difference unless they look at them side by side.

Helvetica usually comes with Adobe's ATM font manager (Adobe Type Manager).

*bemused smile*...

Helvetica and Arial are close, but they ARE quite a bit different if you look closely. One of the Swiss typefaces is actually closer.

eric: overlay herlvetica and arial...the changes are so minor that youll only be able to see the difference if the two fonts are right next to eachother. I'd be very surprised if any font could get closer to helvetica than arial. It would be the difference of a 1/10th of a mm in the descender of the P or somesuch.

weed --

*little laugh*... You're correct that most people -- including more than a few pressmen I know -- can't tell the difference. For whatever reason, I could see it right away the first time I saw a negative with Arial on it.

Too much time around printing presses, I guess...

Yah, a few typesetters can tell the difference. In general your audience isnt typesetters though.

Irendueles,

Welcome to Expert's Exchange!

It's common practice to put your responses in the form of a comment, rather than an answer, so that it leaves a question "unlocked"... The questioner can select a comment as an answer with a button you, as a commentor/answerer, can't see.

Please change your answer to a comment...

The letters between Arial and Helvetica Medium are different in 'ACGRQ12trf' , the rest is however identical.

So it matches the font, just slightly modified.

I can STILL tell the difference... *grin*
