You may also be able to create and associate your new character with a specified font (or all fonts) via the Windows "Private Character Editor" utilty - eudcedit.exe (requires administrator privilege).

Browse All TopicsDear Experts,
I need to display the Filipino Peso character (which is a capital Letter P with a horizontal bar going through the top of the letter). I can see how to edit this simply using a Font Creator program like that from High Logic but in spite of the claim of offering a 30 day free trial this trial does not allow me to save my new font. Fontlab studio 5 also has similar fatal limitations.
It seems to me that if I just want to edit one character of one font there should be a fairly standard tutorial that tells me how to do this without buying an entire program.
Can anyone suggest a tutorial that allows me to do the following:
a) Select standard font like Courier
b) Edit the dollar sign character to the desired shape
c) Save the new font with a new name such as "CourierFilipino"
d) Install it to Windows Fonts
Best Wishes,
Philip Truscott

Fontforge is public domain (free) http://fontforge.sourcefor ge.net/
You may; however, also run into copyright issues depending on the font you start with. If this happens, go back to fontforge to find a public domain font, also.
