With a little bit of your help (uninstalling a recently installed program) I figured out the problem... my system did not have Helvetica previously, after installing the program Helvetica was added and re:jcimarron article suggestion, Helvetica looks like shit in Windows.<br />

Hello,

Today the Helvetica font decided to start rendering in my browsers differently.  It looks like crap!  Any idea how I can fix?  See screen shot attached, the small text is helvetica, the title is arial.

Helvetica all of a sudden starts looking like crap

A font is a particular size, weight and style of a typeface. Each font is a matched set of type, one piece (called a "sort") for each glyph, and a typeface consists of a range of fonts that share an overall design. With the advent of digital typography, font is frequently synonymous with typeface, although the two terms do not necessarily mean the same thing. In particular, the use of "vector" or "outline" fonts means that different sizes of a typeface can be dynamically generated from one design.
