Outlook Express can put sounds and gif anims in emails. The files always get "sent
along" with HTML.
And note -- that is ONLY using Outlook. Using any other mail client would be even MORE iffy to get it to work at all.
Also, the person RECEIVING the mail would need Outlook, or it will probably not work. Usually those things come through as attachments for someone without Outlook.
And if you have AOL, all bets are off. ;-)
weed is of course right about the technique. The 'proper' way (if there is any) to include media in emails without actually inserting them into the email, is to put them on your server, and point to them in your emails html with a full url (http://www.domain.com/fil

No embedding necessary. Just use absolute links and leave the media on a server that the HTML can reference. I dont know how many mail clients support animated GIFs or audio clips though. My guess is few to none so it may be a moot point.
