embed the png (with transparency) file in a external movie and try loading the external movie...

No.
Here's the stupid reason why:
When flash imports PNG in the fla file, it likes to make it compressed to elimnate load time. Especially with PNG-24 files sizes can be large. Loading Jpg's dynamically in the swf are ok because it is something you normally wouldn't expect to be large in file size. Flash won't recognize the png file if you try to import it dynamically. Importing of PNG is only allowed before compile.
