Question

web cam on msn messenger 6.0

Asked by: blueeyedfox

Hello:
I was wondering if anyone has used and had problems with their webcam on msn messenger 6. For some odd reason my cam won't let me view myself, however, the person/persons to whom I am speaking can see fine. It works fine in yahoo and in it's own program, it just won't view in msn. Also, for some really strange reason, when it does let me view in msn my view is reversed, it's all flipped backwards. I have creative web cam pro with vga high resolution optics, if this matters or helps with a diagnosis. Does anyone know why or even what I can do to fix this problem. I have already tried to uninstall and reinstall messenger, it made no difference. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Blueeyedfox,

I am using webcam using msn 6 and I have not faced any problems so far.

the flipping of the video happened to one of my friends and he had to change the webcam cos it was some unknown company.

******************************
Using a Webcam

You might not be able to use the Webcam feature if you are running MSN Messenger on Microsoft operating systems other than Windows XP. With earlier operating systems there is no way to specify the video device you would like to use; if the system detects another video device before it detects your Web camera, the Webcam feature may not operate.

Thank You for the advice. I have tried a new cam and still the same result. I also read the notice from msn about windows xp, however, when I first installed my cam (the first one), it worked fine for one full week. Then for no reason this started. If anyone has any other pointers it would be apreciated.
Thank You.

Try posting a link worth 20 points in the Applications TA or the Miscellaneous TA . Use a title like "500 points". You might get some more activity and this seems more like an applications question than a graphics one.

Are you stilll facing problem?

You may want to close the question if suggestions didnot work.

Thank you for trying to help. I figured it out. I happened to notice that the view tried to work every time either I or the person to whom I was speaking with hit the enter key. So, I tried to think of how to keep the enter between the two going. All I had to do was keep the cam on and start a game of either checkers or solitaire. Once the game is fully loaded the cam works for both parties. It appears that there may be a missing link, or a glitch, in the msn program for the cam that is only brought about by the games. Once the game is started you can then exit the game and the cam will work fine from there out. At least, that is, until your next log in. You must do this every time you log into msn messenger. Again, thank you for trying to help. I hope this will help anyone else who comes along with this particular problem.
