I've been doing this and it hasn't been working consistently. I don't understand what accounts for the inconsistency.

Can someone advise me on this?

When I paste the picture, nothing appears. The paste button does nothing in hotmail, neither does the keyboard combination. YES, the picture is in the clipboard because I can go to another application and paste it there. This just happens in hotmail. And then only sometimes.
What's odd is the intermittentcy of the problem. Sometimes I can paste a picture, sometimes I can't. I even tried pasting different types of pictures (device independent bitmaps, gifs, bmps)

To add an image inline to the body of an email in Windows Live Hotmail:
my.php?ima ge=example .jpg" if you use ImageShack, for example).
1) Create a new message.
2) In MSN Hotmail, Make sure the rich text editor is enabled.
3) In Windows Live Hotmail, you do not have to turn on the rich text editor separately. It is enabled by default.
4) Open either a web page containing the image or the image itself (using the URL) in a separate browser tab or window.
5) If your image is larger than some 640x640 pixels, consider shrinking it to more handy proportions before you put it online. (Here, photoshop)
6) You can upload the image to your web host or use a graphic you found on the web (which you can use without violating any terms).
7) If you don't have a web site, you can use a free image hosting service.
8) Highlight the image just the image with your mouse.
9) Press Ctrl-C (Windows, Linux) or Command-C (Mac).
10) Back at the Hotmail message, position the cursor where you want to insert the image.
11) Press Ctrl-V (Windows, Linux) or Command-V (Mac).
12) If you use an image uploaded to a free image hosting service:
12.a)Click on the image.
12.b) Link the image to the image's page address at the free image hosting service (something like "http://img.imageshack.us/
