What i'd like to check is this: what's the path of the button in question when it's in the 'cart page' - the one marked 'Submit'. I thought i knew, but now i'm not sure

Are you sure you replaced it on the right place (so not in the /images folder but in the /templates/wood.../images folder) ?
Or maybe in the template that you extracted somewhere and afterwards copied to you joomla installation ?

One way to check it is to open the source of the page and check the form action path. That's where the submit button submits the contents of the form. Hope that helps
