Question

how to read input from barcode scanner on web client side ?

Asked by: tgunduz

Hello

We are develooping a web based ERP system with php/linux/oracle. We are planning  to attach barcode reader to the web client running windows XP ie7.

Any idea how to use webbased interface for checkout process?

It seems that Javascript has to wait for "\n" (end of string) and Postback the form.

In our case to avoid Postback I'm going to use AJAX.

Does anybody have experience with barcode scanners and webforms ?

Thanks

Most barcode readers are programmable.  By default they will send a carriage return after the data from the barcode, but you can choose to have this feature on or off.  Check your user's guide for the barcode reader on how to change this setting.  I'm not really sure which you want, on or off based on your description I think on.

Hope this helps,

Neal.

You may have all the information you need above.  My expertise with this for a web page is pretty limited but the company IDAutomation does offer some products/components made for web use.  I don't know that you will need them for what you described above but depending on the page it may make it easier or be required.

There is some general info that includes some samples for web based applications at http://www.idautomation.com/scanenable/ .  That may help to provide you some info too.

Let me know if you have a question about this.

Please explain the reason for deleting this.  You need to respond to the expert comments before asking for a question to be deleted, especially in a method like that which will refund the points.

If you still need help with this then post responses and let us know.  If the situation has change where you don't need help anymore then still post to let us know.  It is the considerate thing to do since we took time to post to try to help. :)

Let me know if you have a question about any of this.

Please explain the B grade and why you closed this as you did.  Was my comment the only one that helped?  Did you have a question or need more info?  If so then let me know and I will be happy to help.  It is nice to always have a chance to earn the A or know why it wasn't.  Since you closed this with no response it would seem you got your answer.  In that case an A grade would be appropriate.

The other expert comments seemed to be good so I am just wondering about how this was closed.  If only my comment helped but it didn't have the details you needed and wasn't complete then a B fits.  However a comment from you would really help.  When taken with your earlier attempt to delete I wonder if this wasn't just closed by accepting any comment (and I just happened to be lucky).  If that is the case then it isn't right and I would like to correct it.

If a mistake was made or you have a question about this then please let me know.  If you have a question about grading at EE then please look at http://www.experts-exchange.com/help.jsp#hi97 .

Thanks for the fun question.

>> Sorry I seems to have spoiled your AAAAA+++ grade reputation <<

I only wish, even if it is unrealistic with all the zones and variety of questions I try to help in.  Thanks for the concern though but no worries. :)

>> So please let me know how I can delete this question or grant you the points you asked <<

My "complaint" with your efforts to delete this was just you posted no response at all to the expert posts.  Before deleting you need to respond to the posts.  The warning you received was meant as a reminder of this question so if you still need help with this then respond and let us help you.  If the question isn't needed then let us know and then delete it.  The key is to participate. :)

>> If I could I would give you 1 000 000 of points but I m limited to 500 points..... <<

Thank you for the thought.  The 500 you offered is enough and the max EE allows.  It would cheapen the certificates, etc if it just took one question to get 1 million and become a Genius.  I wouldn't want that, especially now that my work has earned me one. ;)

In conclusion or to summarize so you can get this taken care of ... what is the status of this question?  Do you still need help?  If so respond to our posts.  Otherwise let us know its status and we can help you close this.  This isn't your first question so I assumed you were familiar with the options, process and EE rules but let me know if something isn't clear or you have a question.  My goal definitely isn't to harrass or get points for nothing.  I just want to make sure you get the help you wanted, EE gets good answers for its database and the experts get what they deserve for their time (as a volunteer) helping.  We don't always need points if there is no answer but at least like participation and info. :)
