poblem installing Magento - download phase

Hi,

the first time I navigated to the magento installation page, I clicked on the orange button saying: start the download process. It downloaded and showed progress in the command prompt screen and everything went well. However, after that, it just wouldnt proceed to the next step for some reason. Then, I closed magento and came here the next day, navigated to the magento page again and pressed the orange button (start the download process). Now, everytime I try to do that, I get an error in the command prompt saying:
No valid packages found
PEAR ERROR: install failed

and then underneath the command prompt goes a red message that says: There was a problem during downloading of Magento packages. Please check the output frame for errors information and refresh the page to retry again. 

and then when I do refresh, I get the same error again.

Kindly, check the attached image to see the exact screen Im getting.

(I'm using XAMPP with Windows Vista)

Login To magento

Download "Full Release" by selecting the format type that you need.

actually that's what I did. However, I still got more and more errors.

Now, somebody's suggesting it's probaby a problem with XAMPP 1.70.. so, I'm gonna download the newest version of XAMPP (XAMPP 1.7.1)... and see if that solves it =)

No you need to download "Full Release"..

Hey I  got the solution to my problem:

1. Uninstall XAMPP 1.7.0 and download the newest version (1.7.1)
2. install XAMPP 1.7.1
3. download the magento "full release" (not the downloader)
4. extract the downloaded magento folder to xampp/htdocs
5. go to xampp/php/php.ini, uncomment the line containing "curl" (just remove the semicolon)
6. restart apache services (or alternatively restart your machine)
7. navigate to  http://127.0.0.1/phpmyadmin and create magento database
8. navigate to http://127.0.0.1/magento to install magento and you're all set!
