I'd like people to be able to find the memorial site when they search for her name. I submitted the page to search engine like Google and Alta Vista but none of them have spidered it yet. Is there a way to get the engines to spider a site quickly?

I would start at www.marketleap.com and pay $39 for their inclusion service. 2 day updates I beleive. Other then that get links to the site. Ask other webmasters with sites to put a link to your site. The more links you have the more people will visit your site, and the easier it will be for search engines to find your site fast.

Yes, you can get good results in less than 7 days, but it will cost you. In some cases, several hundred dollars. Most search engines will offer you an "Express" or "Pro" listing. These will promise you a fast and favorable listing in their search engine.
There are not a whole lot of alternatives if finances are an issue, but there might be a few tricks we can come up with.
