Yha i did ! actually some of them where really not answered properly! Anyway i hv closed it!
ow i hope experts can help me!
Sorry
Main Topics
Browse All TopicsI am writing short reports on e-commerce models, from my text book. Actually i hv to focsed on the models talked on book.
They have four kinds of models like 1.Advertising models( search engine, web portals, company directory pages)
2. company based models( online subscription, online fee-for-service, fee-for transaction models, b2c, bsb vistual comunities, storefronts,)
3.Inter-organisational model-(ectronic procurement modelsupply chain models)
4 Third party models like e-malls, auctioan modele-exachange models.
From this- i need to write how these models are inter-related to each other, when i read this all t\thigs i understood thier funtions, and when i start to solve the question i am confused , what i understand is....
for example: company based models such as fee-for-serive, storefronts has to relied on advertising models to sale thier product or services with the support of advertising models they can't exist ., so so on
- and E-malls are group of storefronts, so individual storefronts need to get support frm E-maals to advertise themselvs, so they have relation to each othre.
These kinds of understanding I hv till now when i start to write the answer AM I RIGHT?
Please suggest me if my understanding is wrong! Can anyone help me to improve my reports
Thanx , hoping to hear from u all.

Well done for closing the questions!
I am not surprised that you are confused because it is a confusing subject!
It does not help in that none of the experts seem to agree on what the words mean and on the various clasifications.
What I will do first to help answer your questions is make some definitions and show some classifications, then you can ask a more detailed question using this terminolgy. I can reply knowing that we are talking about the same thing!
First I think it is important to understand that some authors use the terms e-commerce model and e-business model to mean the same thing, when they do not.
An e-business model is a framework for classifying e-businesses in terms of strategic business objectives.
An e-commerce model is a schema for business processes that show in general terms where the goods and money flow.
Now if we keep in mind the difference between the two a good place to start with understanding e-business is the Cisco 'Internet Value Matrix' which you can see here http://business.cisco.com/
It shows along the vertical axis the level of ‘business criticality’, with low at the bottom and high at the top while the horizontal axis describes 'degree of newness’, with low on the left, and high on the right.
An example of a company that has low business criticality and a low degree of newness might be a catalogue company that open an online store - because they already have fulfilment and the distance selling infrastructure.
It is important to know where a company is located on this graph because the position is highly correlated with success or failure.
Now for e-commerce!
The basic categories for an e-commerce model are as follows; Merchant, Brokerage, Advertising, Affiliate, Community, Manufacturer (Direct), Infomediary, Subscription and Utility.
Of course these models can be implemented in many ways or even combined. For example a content driven business may blend the advertising model with the subscription model.
Now we are ready to discuss your question, please ask away!
One at a time!

Yha got ur points but some of them i didn;t understood!
Actually i foucsed on how they are inter-related to each other , the models i hv mentioned above?
I have got clear idea how these models are runs after reading the chapter. But just confused couldnot write down even some concepts i hv on my mind i am still wondering from where to start i could not point in what sense they are interrelated.
Coz i need to write within 900-950 words so i can not elaborate i must directely switch to answer, with some examples.
regards

OK. Well lets take the four models that you have described; Advertising, Company, Inter-organisational and Third party based models.
This is a poor classification so I will map these to the classification that I described before.
Advertising -----> Advertising
Company ------> Merchant
Third party------>Brokerage
That seems ok but Inter-organisational ------>does not map because 'Inter-organisational' is not one e-commerce model it is a combination of models.
Inter-organisational I assume means business-to-business e-commerce and the model(s) actually used could be Brokerage, Infomediary, Community, Manufacturer (Direct) or more likely varying combinations of these.
Let's find a well known example of each so we can discuss further.
Advertising ________ http://www.monster.com/
Merchant_______ http://www.landsend.com/
Brokerage________ http://www.ebay.com/
Inter-organisational______
Then we can talk about 'How these models are inter-related' by looking at practical examples. OK?
- duz
Ok i got what u mean i hv also got same concepts
like advertising-----google.com
comapany---britannica.co.u
virtual storefront like baker-design.com
Inter-organisational---gsa
Third party like ozmall.com.au, auction model like ebay, store.yahoo.com
There are lots of examples which i can see from all models, and all these models are categorized under four main models. like web portals, advertise supported model, virtual store fronts, ....etc like i hv described above...
They all provides free services to user, but they sell thier advertisment spaces to make money...
I can fihure out how they works?.....but how they inter-related to each others, in what sort of things i can see the relation but not inter-relations
Now i ithink we can talk bout it!
Regards
khushi2003 -
OK let us first make sure you are happy with the examples.
Advertising
I suggested Monster because the public pay to have their advertisement placed on the site. I could have chosen Match.com because again people pay to have their information on the site and available to others.
Just because a website has advertising it does not mean it is perusing the Advertising e-commerce model!
So can we agree Match.com here? Or you prefer Monster?
Company (Merchant)
Can we agree on Landsend.com? (Again just because the website is a registered company it does not mean it is perusing the Company e-commerce model.) Landsend does persue this model though.
Third party (Brokerage)
I think we can agree eBay here yes?
Inter-organisational
http://www.gsaadvantage.co

P.S. I must entertain my family now but I will reply in about 12 hours.
My book gave exapmple inter-organisational model for such as e-procure model (http://www.vgpb.vic.gov.a
it also takes supply chain management model
Yha by reading mt chapter i know how they works..as i told u before but the point is inter-relation?
Regards
khushi2003 -
OK now we can talk about interrelation.
Let's take Match.com (including recent purchase of DealTime.com)
Primary - Advertising model - Consumers pay to advertise themselves.
Secondary - Affiliate model - Affiliates are paid commission on sales
So here there is an interrelation between the Advertising model and the Affiliate model.
For Landsend.com they also combine the Affiliate model but this time with the primary model of Merchant.
So here there is an interrelation between the Merchant model and the Affiliate model.
Now I think you can find many interrelations of models.
To write your 900 words you must think interrelation------>combin
Hope that helps.

Affiliate model = Provides purchase opportunities wherever people may be on the internet. It does this by offering financial incentives (in the form of a percentage of revenue or fixed amount/item) to affiliated partner sites. The affiliates provide purchase-point click-through to the merchant. It is a pay-for-performance model if an affiliate does not generate sales, it represents no cost to the merchant. Variations include, banner exchange, pay-per-click, and revenue sharing programs.
Used in advertising model here = http://affiliates.match.co
Used in Merchant model here = http://www.landsend.com/cg
Can u provide me some tables or graphical examples ? - I have never seen any iterrelational material published on the web.

P.S. On your other question - Do you have to convince your boss to invest in a specific project or a range of projects like a VC?
Not specific project i need to fund in ecommerce ventures, have to convince CEO to launch or invest into e-comerce enterprise.
Like rasing issues like financial impact, strategic fit, impact on customers, priorities and culture changes.
All plus points on this issue so that CEO can invest the fund on ecomerce enterprise.
** still i cannot figure out the iterrelation .....give me direct examples:
khushi2003 -
I do not think you will convince your CEO to invest in e-commerce ventures unless you are an expert on the subject. If he has raised specific issues you will find that they are addressed in the existing literature e.g.
E-Commerce - A Manager's Guide to Applications and Impact
http://www.cplpress.com/co
Mehdi Khosrowpour writes well on this subject and he has a new book coming out soon 'The Social and Cognitive Impacts of E-Commerce on Modern Organizations'
'...give me direct examples' You can extrapolate from the example I gave you already. You just have to think about it for the particular examples you wish to use.
Is this part of a college course you are doing?
