Question

Where are the robots??

Asked by: VenezuelanGirl

Ok.. I have created a web site and it's been online for about 3 months now. I can visit it if I type the url. However, if I try to look for it using Google, Yahoo, etc... it just doesn't appear! I copy text from my web page, and paste it as it is in the search engine, but the page cannot be found!

What could be the problem? I know those robots and crawlers are always looking for web pages in order to add them to their directories, so after 3 months, they should now about their existence. How come my page cannot be found? There's nothing special about it, just some http://www.mysite.org/page1

Help!!

Thanks

Hi VenezuelanGirl,

have you listed your site with google or yahoo?

even though they have robots, you still need to list the site (the main url) then it will go through and catalogue things

hope that helps

Submitting your site to the search engines is a waste of time.  The relevant search engines prefer to find your site via backlinks (incoming links from other websites - those already indexed by the search engines, of course).

If you would like your site to get listed, make sure you have at least one incoming link from a good website (although ongoing link building is an important part of search engine promotion).  After that, you need to optimize your site for the search engines (this is called search engine optimization or SEO).  You can get a good grasp of SEO fundamentals by taking the time to properly review the following tutorial: www.seo-guy.com/tutorial.html.

If you can provide a link to your site, we could give you some more specific advice about what you need to do.

A side note - you will get a better response to this question in the Online Marketing topic area.  I would be happy to move it there for you if you wish.

VenezuelanGirl -

The Google index contains both fully indexed and partially indexed pages and your page is probably only partially indexed. The most common cause is having only one obscure backlink or more likely no backlinks at all.

How many backlinks does your home page have?

There's almost nothing on your site for a bot to index.. hardly any text.

But, Google has a cache of your site from Aug 22.

Also, there're no metatags, no site map, no site title or description... why do you want it indexed?
