Hi,

Today while I was searching Google for 'car buying tips' I noticed that there was few records (links) shown just after the first result.

I need to understand what are those records? And why do they appear especially under the first record? And is it something we can do for our websites using SEO or is it something done by Google?

Those I believe are more or less like advertisements - only they are handled differently by Google.

What happens is some companies pay google to show their website links in the box only if certain searc queries match a criteria. You can say they are conditional advertisements.

hmm,

Thanks for your reply and help. Well I have Google adwords account and I never saw those areas (links) offered there....so I don't really think that they are advertisements.

Beside they appear for commercial products as well as non-commercial products and they appear in some results and some others don't...which proof that they are not advertisement.

So any new ideas what those links might be?

Well - why would you think they are not advertisements? Just because they appear for certain search terms and not for others?

These links are linked to certain search terms - only then they appear. So in a way as I said: "Conditional advertisements". Also if you see it says "Sponsored links" means the companies have paid google to have their link shown at the top as if they were more closely matched - only in a box - so that we are not misled into thinking they are more relevant. It is just one of the ways that Google makes money off search.

For a few selected sites Google shows the regular snippet plus additional 'useful' links from within that site. According to Google the selection and presentation is done algorithmically.
