Question

Single page website SEO question

Asked by: CyberProgrammer

Hi,

Couple of months ago, I saw on the net few articles talking about how to optimize your * ONE page website * for search engines. Example of one page websites (http://www.searchengineoptimizationstrategies.com/).

Although I forgot to bookmark those articles, so can someone please help me find those articles? I am not looking for a specific article, but I am looking for articles on how to optimize a ONE page website which is similar to the link I provided above.

Thanks in advance for your time

If I am going to be honest, one page websites don’t generally do well in search engine rankings if is in a competitive field. Simply just not enough content! The ones I have seen come top are not there for long. they normally adopt dirty tricks and disappear  just as quick as they were made.

Firstly any site should have at least  the following pages:
terms and conditions
sitemap (for a few pages a simple static pages is ok no need for a xml one)
privacy policy
and contact information

above are basic requirements that Google sometimes looks for!

I would recommend a few pages on your topic and the above one also, then just follow these guides: http://www.seo-blog.com/tutorial.php

Great response from pigmetarts.

One small thing to add - proper optimization is generally done on a page by page basis anyway.  The same SEO guidelines apply for a single page site as for anything else ... with the understanding that their effectiveness will be significantly limited as outlined above.

On Which site did you see these articles.

Try to make a search on that article site.

Was it ezinearticles.com ?

You can also check your history for those articles.

Its talking about doorway pages but stright from Google - "individual pages are rarely relevant for a wide range of keywords" ref: http://www.google.com/support/webmasters/bin/answer.py?answer=35291

have read of this: http://www.cre8asiteforums.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=38912

Sorry for that , but some people just dont have a clue - i thought you must be one of them.

WHat about "You can also check your history for those articles."

I dont know the article but Optimization for single page is optimization for site with many pages (example the b/h1 tags, title etc).

Other than that for basic optimization :

1. Do on page Linking - Link from one part of the page to another(use keywords with a name).

2. Keep the content on that page fresh.

AHT

Guys,

I am NOT trying to optimize one page in a site with multiple pages...and that is why I gave an example site in my original question.

I am trying to find an article that is talking about ONE page WEBSITE....the whole website is JUST ONE PAGE...no other pages in the website. Please refer to this example www.searchengineoptimizationstrategies.com

Thanks in advance for your time

Even in a multi-page site, most optimization is done page to page.  The process for a single page site is largely the same.  Yes, some things are left out, like internal linking structure.  If you have seen information that says otherwise, it is inaccurate.

As for the example page you linked - absolute garbage.

CyberProgrammer, did you read what humeniuk and i stated?

All optimisation is done page by page, and a “one page site website” is a contradiction in terms, a “one page website” is NOT a "website", IT’S A PAGE.

Really they don’t work, I did search high and low for the article you suggested (...I was bored and up for a laugh) and could not find it in google.co.uk, that alone suggested something to me!

If you really want your site to rank well in the search engines particularly Google your going to need more that one page.

If your question was to merely help you locate the article, then sorry i can’t find it, and even if I could I think I would end up ripping it to pieces alone with the other guys/girls on here.

Regards
Pigment :)

Just to note, some professional SEO Companies don't like to work on a site with less than 50 pages if the keywords are competitive. I like hundreds of pages of free information. In other words, good SEO usually includes adding lots of pages and not funneling the site all into one page. That is, unless there's no competition.

Try typing your keywords into Google and analyzing the top 10 in the SERPs. If the keyword is fairly competitive or competitive, most sites that come up will include lots of pages of free information. Build a similar site with a steady inbound link campaign and you have a chance at ranking with them.
