Excellent SEO but position 435?????

Web Site Position
Our Web site is 14 months old.   Google PR is 2.  When it is searched on the domain name it appears
as No 3 page 1 Google , No 1 Page 1 Yahoo   No 1 Page MSN.   The home page is Judged to be excellently optimised both on page and off page.  But when the keyword phrase is searched on the site appears at 425 in Google,   436 Yahoo and 431 MSN.
Can anyone tell me why it is so low on the keyword phrase for which the page has been excellently optimised.  Thanks
