You can get the REMOTE_ADDR from the server variables and look it up that way, but this isn't always 100% b/c someone in WV may have an ISP stationed in NY.

I specifically need something to sniff the zipcode of an client browser - to be used to show/hide specific divs on my site. i.e. a user in Jacksonville should see one set of info, while a user in LA should see another.

When I look at StatCounter.com reports for my personal websites, I can drill-down to the city level of where my visitors came from. So, definitely there's something in the IP that tells you about locality.

IP2Location looks like it would suit your needs. It translates an IP address to country, region or state, city, latitude, longitude, US ZIP code and Timezone. Retails on their website at $649/yr/server.

So far as I know, there is no way to determine what zip code a browser user is located in. This would be a security violation, I think.
