Browse All TopicsIf I have a website, does it 'matter' to SERP how the file/folder structure is layed out?
I've read opinions in both directions. Here is the specifics of my question
#1:
Does the name of the .html file for my web page matter? By this I mean, should I put keywords and/or product titles in the file name?
ex. ice_cream_chocolate_for_sa
#2:
Some say to use a DASH - instead of an underscore _ when separating words. Does this matter?
#3:
Finally, how does the folder structure play out for SERP? I've read both opinions. Some say to keep ALL web pages right off the root of your main website. Other say to 'break it down' into categories. Which way to you would seem to be best (with SEO and SERP in mind as the most important)
Method A: website_main_page.html/cho
website_main_page.html/ban
Method B: website_main_page.html/pro
website_main_page.html/pro
Method C: website_main_page.html/pro
website_main_page.html/pro
To me, method C seems the 'best'. I say this because when you start dealing with lots of products, product images, and sub-product campaigns ... it would be much easier to deal with a large amount of files that file.
For example, say you want to suddenly put chocolate fudge ice cream on sale ... you could jump right to the folder you want and manage the web pages in that directory so much quicker.
Thanks in advance
