< a >nchor tag within a table

I am trying to have a web page (jsp) jump to a location based on a results of a search. (Not a straight text search; its the result of a search utility module and is passed as a parameter to the jsp. This parameter's value is embedded into the <%= location %> value for the onLoad event of the body tag)

Within a <table> i have tags like <a name="loc1"><a name="loc2"> etc..

<body onload='jump("<%= location %>);>

JavaScript function as follows
function jump(loc){
if (loc != "")
location = "#" + loc
}
}

I am aware that the <a name="loc"> tag is not recognized within a table. (Which is where I need it.)
Is there an easy workaround without comprimising the structure of the table?
