OK, we currently have about 10 websites mainly our own but a few are other for other businesses.
Our hosting is currently with
http://www.webfusion.co.uk and we have the reseller account for £50 per month + VAT @ 17.5%
of the services they provide us we only actually take advantage of:
1) 70MB of web space
2) 100MB bandwidth
3) 1 * sub domain
4) 1 * sql database
5) 6 * email forwarding
The interface of what we use its great, we can change passwords, I use dreamweaver all the time to modify and upload new pages etc.
We dont ever seem to use the 24/7 technical support and even the sql database is a practice one for doing in the future
We have recently set up our own server in the office using windows server 2003, but now we would like to set up a dedicated web server at home / or / office.
1) We need to know what kind of upgrade do we need on our existing 256mb broadband
2) What kind of server spec is recommended
3) Is it windows web server we need?
4) What other software programs do we need other than the Operating system
5) Although free stats websites are good, our previous hosting company had a program called "web usage 7" and that was good, so maybe can someone advise on stats software that wont cost too much to put on say 12 web sites....
6) Im very familiar with changing the dns settings where I have my websites registered with 123-reg etc, but where will these settings be done on our own server.
finally.................. is this a cost effective idea based on we want to keep expanding eg webspace = 500mb and bandwidth 10gb and have the option of databases later.. Do we need to consider using linux? where is the best place to get linux? i installed mandrake once or red hat....
Alternatively, and probably easier for EE professionals, is there a hosting company I can change to that are highly recommended and if this makes much difference I am based in ENGLAND
