The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

taking payments online -- best approach?

Asked by bochgoch in Miscellaneous Web Development, E-Commerce, Payment Processing Recommendation and Integrating

I have developed a site for a client that contains full shopping-cart functionality, without the ability to take payment online (due to the nature of the business the original business model was to invoice all orders including those taken on-line). They now quite naturally want to add the ability to take credit card payments on the site. My client already accepts credit cards.

My question is, which way should we going in achieving this. I'd intended to go the merchant account route, however:

The merchant / e-commerce solution offered by my clients own bank is frankly awful.
PayPal is not an option as its far to 'clunky' and messy.
This leaves me with a 'third-party' merchant account from someone such as Worldpay...
OR
...adding the necessary security (SSL) & capturing credit card details on the site. These are low volume / high value transactions in the main so we have no worries of not being able to cope with running the credit card numbers manually through the POS equipment.

I've always considered the capturing card details as risky, however, given the situation it seems to be the easiest solution, therefore I thought I gather opinion -- which way should I go?

1. Merchant account.
2. Secure site (https) with capture of credit card details.

Please give pro's & con's of each as you see them. Is option 2 really so risky?

Thanks,

bg
