I would personally think it's very hard to do so.
The reason why is because if you can retrieve back your password just by knowing your ID, everybody in the world will be able to retrieve anyone's password as well.
Unless you work for Yahoo! in the IT department, and you got the chance to access the database.

But, even that, I don't think they store the password in the text format. It should have been encrypted, which means that only if they have got a Reset Password tool in their Administrative system, you can get back your password.

From my opinion, it's next to impossible.

by: OliWarnerPosted on 2005-07-07 at 04:05:36ID: 14386068

Not next to impossble. Impossible.

You're asking them to circumvent the security features put in place to protect your identity - they're not going to bend over backwards to help someone get access to an account just because they say its theirs. If you're going to have any chance of getting your account back, youve got 1 of 2 options. Stop trying to login for 90 days. They will then deactivate the account and you should be able to regerate it with a new password - or give them a call and explain your situation. Chances are they're just going to say "Yeah whatever" and hang up. But if they are more sympathetic, they'll try and ask your your secret question or something like that - which you will know if its your account.

As woody said, if it were made easy enough for someone to go: "oh i've forgotten my password! can you tell me it?" noones password would be safe.

People trying to get access to other peoples accounts is a rife problem over free email systems since they started up. If they're doing their job, they wont give your account up without a fight.

>> "By the way is there any way to hack and access a yahoo mail account??"

LOL I didnt see that line... God knows how i missed it really...
Shouldnt that be edited out of the question? There's no possible way an expert can answer that and remain within the bounds of the EE rules... So it serves no purpose being there.

by: WoodyRoundUpPosted on 2005-07-07 at 07:19:11ID: 14387453

Lol. I missed that part as well. All I know was trying to help him/her find a way to restore password, not to hack account.
Well, probably should be edited out, I supposed.

As a note I contacted yahoo awhile back.

My yahoo account mysteriously started locking me out from that morning to later that day.  I contacted them to see if they could figure out what happened.  They said my password had changed and I needed to provide all registration information to retrieve it.

Well here is a catch - 22

I provided them with the information - including that I had left the secret question blank.  They kept insisting I provide them with the answer and I told them the answer was blank.  Well no one there was even willing to check that it indeed was blank - they told me they couldn't check unless I gave an answer.

So I had to create a new account....

Not too organized over there, it seems.  I solved my Yahoo mail problems by switching to Gmail  :)

No further comments in this thread please.

itdanushka,

You are not new to EE.  You have been registered on the site for 2 years.  If in all that time you are unaware of the rules againsts hack/crack solutions and illegal activities, then I suggest that you read the Members' Agreement.  This is serious enough that it will require a moderator.

I nomally assume that requests like this are innocent but when I see "... is there any way to hack and access a yahoo mail account??" it is absolutely clear that you are seeking to have experts violate the MA.

I will past this on to a moderator, as it is in my view to serious to be dealt with as an edit issue.

EXPERTS:

When a page editor post a comment in questions like this please stop commenting until the issue is resolved.  Part of the reason for the comment is to protect you from making a mistake that will put you in vilation of the MA.  By continuing to comment you make it appear that you are co-operating and trying to help the questioner.
