Make sure your browser is up to date.
Internet explorer should be updated regularly.

After that try to reinstall the activex.

If you still have no luck try removing everything and starting again. Something might have become corrupt along the way.

Step 1
Close all open Internet Explorer windows.

Step 2
Click Start, point to Settings, and click Control Panel.

Step 3
Double-click Internet Options. In Microsoft Windows XP, you may need to click the Network and Internet Connections icon before clicking Internet Options.

Step 4
On the General tab in the Temporary Internet files section, click Settings and then the View Objects button.

Step 5
In the Downloaded Program Files folder, click once to highlight ZoneIntro Class.

Step 6
On the File menu, click Remove Program File. When you are prompted to confirm the removal of the program file, click Yes.
Once you remove this object, repeat Steps 5 and 6 to remove these additional files:
StadiumProxy Class
StagingUI Object
ZoneBuddy Class
ZonePAChat Object

You may also need to remove addition objects
ZPA_WheelofFortune (if you installed Wheel of Fortune)
Catan Online Games (if you installed Catan Online™)
CBankshotZoneCtrl Class (if you installed a Bankshot Billiards game)
ZPA_Backgammon Object (if you installed Backgammon)

Step 7
Close the Download Program Files window and click OK to close Settings.

Step 8
On the General tab in the Temporary Internet Files section, click Delete Files and OK to clear Windows Internet Cache.

Now try to install your active x again.

Are you running Windows 2000?

If so have you performed the latest security updates? Because I too am having this problem. I am not getting prompts for any form of ActiveX component.

Ie: Flash, Windows Update, PandaScan Online virus scanner.

I think some patch I insttalled by microsoft messed up some permissions.

by: carpetflyerPosted on 2005-10-17 at 11:33:30ID: 15101853

I looked at the Microsoft forums, and a guy said the KB896688 update was the reason for causing the problems.

Him and a few other people like me are having the same problems.

Also, if you go to Control Panel -> Add/Remove Programs you might not be able to view anything. It keeps giving an error running scripts.

Is this happening to you?

If you installed the October  "Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer for Windows XP (KB896688)" then verify the following keys are in the registry. You may have to uninstall the "Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer for Windows XP (KB896688)" apply the changes to the registry and reinstll the update.

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{0000031A-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}]

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{0000031A-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}\ProgID]

TomTinsley hit it on the money:

Download:

And run the reg key. Just read the link on google groups above scroll all the way to the bottom.

When i ran this,  everything started working again.

Thanks Tom!
