well, at least you don't have to type password twice when setting new user.

Browse All TopicsHi all,
I would like to set up a members only section for a web site, so that when visitors click the "Members Section" link, the login box pops up for a user name and password. If they correctly enter their details that we have given to them then they get access, if not then a page will be displayed saying something like "Access restricted to site members only."
I was reading on here about setting up .htaccess, but I can't seem to find anything that explains how. People are saying you have to put a .htaccess file in the directory that you want for members, but they don't say how I make this file, what I put in it, how I assign user names and passwords.
If anyone can give me, or knows of a step by step procedure for setting this up (or has a better/simpler method) then please let me know.
Thanks!

Hi Ali
It depends on what web server you have.
If it is IIS, then see the following link for restricting access to a directory:
http://support.microsoft.c
Do you host your website yourself? If not your hosting company can certainly tell you whether or not it is possible to have restricted directories and in case it is possible: how to do it.
Can you give us more information?
