Iframe causing onload event of body to not fire

Tags: HTML, Javascript, IE, IIS, IE6, IE7, http://69.18.200.37/B4TLegal/bugTest/test.html
I have two exact same pages running on two different IIS sites on the same physical server:

http://69.18.200.34/B4TLegal/bugTest/test.html

http://69.18.200.37/B4TLegal/bugTest/test.html

The .37 never loads the page correctly and therefor never calls the onload method of the body.  .34 works find and as you can see you get the "done loading..." alert.  Everthing is identical as far as I can tell between the two sites.  the blank.html (iframe src file) file is the same on each site as well.

So the question is why would an iframe cause the parent page to not fire its onload method in some cases but not in others.  This only seems to happen on IE6 / IE7.  I have run into this problem before and had to find an unsatisfactory work around to keep the app working.  I would be great to know what would cause such behavior.

The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

This issues was cause when I created a false MIME type of call "All" for all file extensions (*).  It turns out that IE will not trigger the onload event of iframes if the source document (src=....)  does not have a recognized Mime type associated with it, even if it is a standard html (.html or .htm) file that is loaded into the iframe.

I changed my wild card Mime type to "application/octet-stream" and it fixed the problem.

Also the caching that IE performs, made this very difficult to debug, so clear your browser cache after applying Mime type changes.
