html encoding problem

I have text to be displayed in view and edit mode.Edit mode is having text area prepopulated with data. But inside text area I have special character which is displayed as ´ instead of ´.
So text area should not convert ´(acute symbol) to ´.  Any pointer to resolve this issue.
