Browse All TopicsHi,
I have asked about this previously, but I can't get it to work.
In my .htaccess file I have placed this line
ErrorDocument 404 /index.php
But when I type in a URL that does not exist I still get the hosting companies standard error 404 page.
There are several other lines within the .htaccess file, so I have placed the 404 error line after the final line with this file. Or is it that the hosting company do not allow such things?

Some hosting companies don't allow error document overrides. The code you have is correct so it should work.
ing-a-cust om-404-err or-page-wi th- cpanel
This could be a few things:
1) Your host doesn't allow error message overrides (this is pretty uncommon)
2) You need to use your control panel to change the error pages. Here is a tutorial if you have CPanel:

3) Your hosting company has hard coded the error pages and you have a folder somewhere in your hosting area. Most commonly when you first FTP in to your site it is there under "errordocs" or something like that.
Hope this helps!
