use an extra column with required width to render the gap between columns. cell spacing is buggy.
also, if you have no-content inside a td, then atleast you put within it.
i.e. <td> </td>

Browse All Topicsin Internet Explorer 7 and 6 (I presume) I'm experiencing an error with a table and TD spacing. I'm not sure what's causing it, but there is an ugly space between the TD's, but I'm using border-collapse: separate and I think that might be causing the issue.
This problem doesn't happen in IE8, Firefox, etc. I've attached a screenshot of the problem, and hope that someone can help me. And I've also attached a screenshot of it working in Firefox.

It appears that the working border in FF is from the <tr> rather than the single <td>s
I suggest using border-collapse:collapse and appropriate padding and vertical margin (cf. govindarajan78).
If possible at any rate I'd like to discourage adding "gap columns" - this would abuse tables for layout purposes
