Question

Filtering the search results based on the drop down menu select

I am creating this question again since the AJAX work did not completely solve my problem. I am trying to filter my search results based on the dropdown selection. In the code below, I am generating two drop down boxes based on the search criteria. I want to filter the results based on that selection. I believe if I can pass the value of the selected value and run the query with that, it should show the filtered results...

Hi Mayank,

I have tried doing the filtering by drop down select value, but the problem is it searches the whole database and shows the results where as I need to search the table by both the search query and also the dropdown select...

on click on the search button
a new page is opened then on the new page have these parameters
param1 = request.form("dropbox1")
param2 = request.form("dropbox2")
SQL_search = "select * from table12 where parameter1 = "& param1 &" and parameter2 = "& param2 &"
set rs_search = constr.execute(sql_search)

I am sorry mayank, but having hard time in understanding your post. If you can quickly point it out in my code, it will be great and m using php and mysql for this..

Can I store my search results in VIEW like

create view cat as SELECT ID,name,description,vendor,IFNULL(price,'N/A')price,IFNULL(cost,'N/A')cost,IFNULL(category,'N/A')category,IFNULL(subcategory,'N/A')subcategory FROM prices WHERE name LIKE '%$var%' OR description LIKE '%$var%' OR vendor LIKE '%$var%' OR category LIKE '%$var%' OR subcategory LIKE '%$var%'";


and then select the value from the dropdown box and search for the results from the view above???
