RTS programming Java overview?

Hi
I have recently asked a few chat room questions, because I thought the chat room network aspect might help me start RTS network coding. But, I have not found the right help, so I may as well ask - in Java (Swing) might there be a decent RTS programming overview article?
Also, I am trying to do all the gamePlay in a JFrame's paint(.) method. Is this the best way to go? It seems, from my testing, to be adequate for the gameplay?
