Browse All TopicsI have a scene which contains two movieclips.
One is just a simple red block shape which is called "mcRedBlock" and instanced as "mcRedBlock".
The other is a simple green block called mcBlock which is also exported as class "CTestBlock".
I have a file called "CTestBlock.as" which looks like this:
public class CTestBlock extends MovieClip
{
public function CTestBlock()
{
visible= true;
parent.visible= true;
parent.mcRedBlock.visible = false;
}
}
The first two lines of the constructor compile and work fine.
The line "parent.mcRedBlock.visible
I get error "1119:Access of possibly undefined property mcRedBlock throug a reference with static type flash.display.DisplayObjec
How do I get access to the mcRedBlock object from my class?
With Thanks

You would have to use 'parent.getChildByName("mc RedBlock") .visible = false;'
But know that this is really ugly code: You shouldn't assume that there happens to be a movieclip with the name mcRedBlock in your parent. If you do assume that it exists, you wouldn't be able to use your class on its own, only in your specific situation. (This breaks the encapsulation rule)
