Auto-resize font size to fit text box? (Flash CS4)

I have 2 text fields (dynamic text) that have a set width. These 2 text fields are headlines that I'll use on a client's website.

I need the font size in both text fields to auto-resize based on how long the headline is. (Larger if shorter, smaller if longer, etc...)

The text fields have a limited width, so I do not want them to grow... I just need the font to resize.

i'm assuming you're using AS3.

create a textFormat.
check the length of the string. change the text size accordingly.
have look at the snippet of a function I use, change it accordingly.

As you can see, it's very simple and just receives variables from SwfObject...

How would I change your code to affect my pre-exisiting text fields?

you just need this part

                        } else if (numItems > 8 && numItems < 13) {
                                format.size = 22;
                        } else {
                                format.size = 18;

                        yourtextfieldname.defaultTextFormat = format;



change the conditions in the if statement to whatever your lengths are, i'm guessing you'll be using a string so just check the length and then change the size property (and all the other bits accordingly)
