Hi everyone,
We are running Windows XP SP3, Microsoft Office 2003, and Adobe CS3 Standard. This summer we started having problems with random systems. When opening Word, it would hang for a few seconds, and then come up with a message saying that Word has crashed. We are given the option to start it in safe mode.
We have imaged entire labs and not had this problem. To test the cause of this problem, we started with a fresh image of just Windows and Office. No problems. Then we started adding applications until we ran into the problem. Luckily we noticed the problem after we installed Adobe CS3. We further widdled it down by uninstalling components of Adobe CS and found out that it was Acrobat. When we run winword.exe /a to disable add-ins, we can successfully run Word.
The maddening thing about this is that we can't figure out why the add-in is killing Word. Nor can we figure out why on 95% of our systems, we have absolutely no problem. It's on all the systems that we newly image that we are having this problem with.
We have tried different installation orders, but still have the problem. Thanks.
