Try a system restore. Start->Help->Preformance and Maintence->System Restore.
Also, delete any temporary files, C:\temp.
If this does not work, turn off your anti-virus. If problem goes away, reinstall it.

Browse All TopicsAll of a sudden, Windows Explorer takes 20 to 60 seconds, to just pop up the Search dialog box( right click a folder and select Search...)
When I try other actions on the Windows Explorer, the title bar shows 'Not responding..' but eventually the Search dialog box pops up.
All I can think as the cause was to delete a couple of old/unused installation update directories from C: drive.
I do a lot of file search, and this is a big pain. How to fix this problem?

1st method didn't solve the problem. The entire system performance is a bit fast, but here I specifically having Search dialog popup problem from Windows Explorer.
For the 2nd suggestion, I believe the menu hirearchy is wrong(win xp), but I managed to find System Restore. However I don't have system restore point.
Again, the problem is SLOW Search dialog popup. It takes 20+ sec.
rionroc,
I followed you instruction exatly. No difference.
Let me tell you more details. The SLOW(20~30sec) operation from Windows Explorer > right click on ANY folder is :
Open
Search...
Others as below are very fast :
Sharing and Security ... immediate popup of dialog
Add to archive ... immediate popup of dialog.
Hello

rionoc,
Thanks for the suggestion. After install the ccsetup the overall performace of the systems seems a bit faster, but Windows Explorer > Search dialog still takes 20+ seconds to popup...
It seems to happening after deleting some old unused installation direcotries from the root, which I cannot recover.. But I'm not sure if that is the case.
OK,
I hope this helps:

rionroc,
Thanks for trying to help me.
I followed you instruction again, but there is no difference.
I don't understand why you are creating 2 bogus entries here. These has nothing to do with my Search...problem, correct? Registries are created normally.
May be you can tell me how to Run the Search dialog box from command prompt, and then I can try if that one is also taking 20+ sec to bring up the Search box...
OK
other step1:
Try to edit your ddeexec in [Find] key, edit FROM [FindFolder("%l", %I)] TO [FindFolder("%", %)]
other step2: (open notepad then copy paste this code), Save us: findnow.vbs, save on desktop(for test)
'-----------
Option Explicit
Dim Shell
Set Shell = WScript.CreateObject ("Shell.Application")
Shell.FindFiles
'-------------
If the code works(move findnow.vbs to root drive.
Make a new command in File Folder File types and point to findnow.vbs

I can execute the vbs from Desktop normally, but cannot make a new command using the vbs in the root. It says it cannot find the program. Also I found that launching Word to load rtf or doc file by double clicking the file from the Windows Explorer is also very slow. I think that something got corrupt in my system, there is not much you can do.
rionroc, thanks for your help. I will give up at this moment, and give you the credit.
Thanks,
if it opens the search window by .vbs script and theirs no delay, good.
Root means on your system drive, eq: drive c, if it is. But you can put it in any folder, then in File Folder File Types just point where the .vbs script located.
About system corrupted, try this:
1. Turn off System Restore in my computer properties.
2. Perform a desk clean up, in run window type: cleanmgr /d /sagerun c:
3. Delete \Windows\Prefetch Folder.
4. Set Pagefile.sys to 0 in my computer properties, advance settings, advance.
5. Restart computer
6. Download this:
http://download.piriform.c
http://www.download.com/Ul
6a. Scan and Clean registry 3 times.
6b. Defrag your system (Fragmented files Only) 3 times.
7. After Defrag, Restart computer.
8. Turn On again your pagefile to system managed size or custom recommended size.
9. Restart computer
10. Run many application sequentially, one by one, after one open, close it, open another, close it. open, close, and sooo on.
11. Restart computer.
Whops!, to many? lol, that's called troubleshooting.
Compare it.
Good Luck!

Hello
Try to:
Delete \Windows\Prefetch Folder.
Turn off System Restore in my computer properties.
Perform a desk clean up, in run window type: cleanmgr
Set Pagefile.sys to 0 in my computer properties, advance settings, advance.
Restart.
Turn on system restore again (if you want to)
Turn on pagefile.sys to system manage size.
Restart.
Run programs(word, excel, search, my docs, etc....) you want to, to load the programs cache in pagefile and windows prefetch.
After many programs loaded, Restart.
Observe the difference.
Great is our GOD.
