I'd try an absolute URL instead of the relative one you're using:
contacts/profile.cfm

Browse All TopicsHello All,
My client has requested vanity URLs for all of the staff in their office. For example, if their domain is www.website.com, they would like each staff member to have a profile page at a URL such as: www.website.com/johnsmith,
<cfif #cgi.path_info# contains 'johnsmith'>
<cflocation url= "contacts/profile.cfm?uid=
</cfif>
... but I keep getting a "The Page could not be found" error. Can anyone help?
Also, would there be a way to keep www.website.com/johnsmith in the address bar even though the user has been redirected to www.website.com/contacts/p
Thanks!

Why are you not simply making a folder 'johnsmith' under the root directory and letting the user type in the address http://website.com/johnsmi th
