How do I map out a coldfusion search based on a geographic region

Hi,
I just had a broad question. Is it possible to make a search function with ColdFusion that will take into account a city, then 40 miles around that city? How would you "map" out the code?
Just broad details would help me alot

have a quick look at this basic slideshow on geolocation from a cfunited prez

you'll need a db ... the ip table at
http://www.ipinfodb.com/ip_database.php
has both ip addresses and post codes

look up the users IP or use the entered zip to look up the lat & lon

then use http://www.bennadel.com/blog/1489-Finding-The-Distance-Between-Latitude-Longitude-Locations-In-ColdFusion.htm

to calculate the distance and query (reverse of what Ben is doing) to find nearby lat & lons

show on map using cfgooglemap.riaforge.org

or upgrade to cf9 and use cfmap :)

Could you give me an example of using cfmap?
I have a list of buisnesses with street addrees, city, state in a DB that can be searched by city.  How would you use cfmap to exapand that search say by 40 miles around a particular city?

actually i haven't upgraded to 9 yet so I haven't played with cfmap yet... but you'd still need to do all the calculations cfmap only replaces the cfgooglemap code
