I only have IE installed on my system but yes, everytime I download or open and then try and save, the save as type defaults to web page.

I save the file to my desktop, open the file in Excel, make a change and click the save button; then I receive the following pop-up message (untitled1.jpg).
If I click the No button, the Save As box displays (untitled2.jpg) but the Save as Type box displays as Web Page (*.htm, *.html); is there anyway to download a "true" Excel file that doesn't require the Save As process?

That is correct, however I don't want to have to do a Save As or see the non-compatible pop-up messages. I need to download the file as a true Excel document, not a "web page" or XML doc. If I download the file, make changes and click the Save button, it should save as Excel and not give me the pop-up box above.

Yes, generate a _real_ excel file.

What you're generating is just HTML. That's why you get the warning. There's no fool-proof way around
this other than to generate a _real_ Excel file which is a lot more complicated. Another possibility is to
generate a plain .csv file.

Have you tried opening the same file in different browsers and everytime you download get the same error!
