Setting widh for the text box depending upon the number of character

How to set the size of the input text box depending upon the text which is going show. For example suppose i am going to put WWWWW 5 characters of W the text box size should near to that if it is aaaaa then it should get adjust to that. There should be some formula where we can arrive approximate the width of the text box
