The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Playing DCR Files in a Browser

Asked by pmascari in Macromedia Director Video Editing Software

Tags: , ,

I'm an experienced web developer but have not worked much with Director files.  I've been handed a site that was built about 5 years ago.  It's got several DCR files on it that worked at one time but no longer play, however, I do hear sound out of them...just no display.

When I download the files to my desktop and try to play them...same thing: sound but nothing else.  However, when I place them on my own development server they run just fine.

The only difference I can think of is the production web server I believe is IIS while mine is Apache.  But, that leads to another question...are DCR files web server dependent?  I ask because the files won't play correctly loaded directly from my machine either.

For reference, the HTML code for one of the file in particular is:

<html>
<head>
<title>Developing Quality IEPs</title>
<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1">
</head>

<body bgcolor="#FFFFFF" marginwidth="0" marginheight="0" leftmargin="0" topmargin="0">
<object classid="clsid:166B1BCA-3F9C-11CF-8075-444553540000" codebase="http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/director/sw.cab#version=8,0,0,0" width="640" height="480">
  <param name="src" value="open.dcr">
  <embed src="open.dcr" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/shockwave/download/" width="640" height="480">
  </embed>
</object>
</body>
</html>

What's going on here?

One last note...I do NOT have access to the original Director files.  All I have are the DCR files which I've found can not be opened.  *sigh*Start Free Trial
