Hi yazzix, what are you opening this avi with? Windows Media player?
I dare say there is many steps to build an avi in Pinnacle.
But why you would get a capture filter error when trying to play it?
Please start with checking if you have the right codecs installed on the system or if there is a problem with the avi.

Do you get any errors playing other avi in WMP?
WMP does not play avi or mpeg 2/ dvd natively without these codecs such as power DVD WinDVD not free usually bundled with DVD rom.
free codecs come in media players such as these free
VLC and Media player classic are the two main tools that solve most video formats playback problems as they provide ffdshow. direct draw.
