This article is very specific and is only intended to help if you are installing Dreamweaver 8 in a Windows 7 environment with Office 2007 installed. I'm not sure why Microsoft tends to release OS' that should not be released but they do. Windows ME and Vista are a few examples. I was using Vista Business for a long time and had lots of problems with it. After having enough, I installed another drive and installed W7-64 pro on it and slowly started to move everything over as I needed them. Everything was working great until I tried to install Dreamweaver 8. It installed fine but would not run steady. Random crashes everywhere and W7 compatibility would not solve it. The problem was most prevalent when opening files and Windows Explorer opened up, while browsing Dreamweaver would shut down. Then I noticed that browsing more that 3 levels in any directory structure would almost guarantee a crash.
All of this said, there is a solution and it turns out to be simple. As it turns out there is a compatibility issue with Dreamweaver 8 and the Groove option of Office 2007. Groove is a feature of Office that allows users to create a workspace where files can be shared with others. This feature modifies the Windows Explorer tool to allow for this feature to work. Dreamweaver does not like this and will not work with it.
The fix, simply click add/remove features in the Office installation program and remove the Groove feature (see attached picture). Just like that Dreamweaver 8 starts to work as it should.
This isn't a big deal but it sure helps when someone documents what they went through so that you don't have to. I hope it helps.
