Perhaps you have a lot of tables nested into one long table?
Nothing within a table is shown in a browser until the complete table including the "last" </TABLE> tag has been interpreted by the browser.
Therefore it is often a good idea to split a long table into smaller tables folowed after each other. This way the user will have something to look at alreday when the first table has been loaded.
