and does the software works at adminstrator?

Also, did you give permissions (standard user / administrator) to other users that locally log into your workstation?
try to amke yourself a member of POWER USERS.

This may be related to a known issue with Dreamweaver 8 (you are using Dreamweaver 8, right?)

If so, please download the updater:

http://www.macromedia.com/cfusion/knowledgebase/index.cfm?id=a3f38dcf#wont_start

and see if that fixes the problem.

i am using dreamweaver 7.0.1 (2004 mx). And i don't really want to give power user permission to the students.

the fix didn't help because it was already installed.

the software does indeed work as administrator but not as a normal user.
uninstall and re-install the software as admin again. backup your site(s) confuration before you do this.
it even fails the first time on a new machine.
were you able to uninstall?
yes it was no problem
ok.. this is an outside of the box solution

remove your computer from the network.... disable  your anti-virus software.

install dreamweaver.

if that doesn't work, then continue with this...

START- RUN, type in msconfig.  Go to the STARTUP tab and disable any software you recognize that you can do without.

install dreamweaver

Works? turn on Anti-virus and reconnect to the network.

prifre....that has been addressed a few posts ago....so permission is the issue, but it should already work by loggin in as a normal user without having to change default install settings DW.

I'm waiting for sgrdender to get back regarding my previous post, before we explore the user accounts.
Hey, this is still open.. what's the status?  Any new development?  I would like to table this or help you out.  If there is a valid answer could you please grade accordingly.  If there were many input from other's splitting the points would be good as we invested our time in helping you out.  Please advise.
yes it is still open, but as an ict-coördinator i only am at this school ones a week :)

so i'm testing as we speak / write
I found this in the activation log.

Mon Feb 13 15:44:42 2006
 (Win) -- SC Error: Type = 611

 (Win) -- Activation Error: Type = 1, Message = 611

the activation log was found at C:\Documents and Settings\USER\Application Data\Macromedia\Dreamweaver MX 2004

When i log in as the user on the machine and the use the runas function with administrator the application starts up just fine. Problem is that the user has to re-enter the password of the administrator each time (which in a school can't be done)

I searched a bit on the net for this error code but found nothing so far.

maybey the users have no rights in the registry keys?
