User Registration Error using DW Developer Toolbox

Hi,

I have created a registration page in dreamweaver using the developer toolbox, when i run it i get the following error, would anybody please be able to help me out with this one, cheers


Error:
Error sending e-mail.
Developer Details:
E-mail couldn't be sent. Error returned: The message could not be sent to the SMTP server. The transport error code was 0x80040217. The server response was not available . (EMAIL_FAILED)

Hi Andy6350,

That error is saying a mail server wasn't available to send the message.  Check your settings in the Toolbox control panel.

these settings i am to put in, are they my localhost settings, or are they my email service providers server settings i.e easily who provide my email?

Is this an ASP or PHP server?

I dont know, the situation i am in is that i have a laptop running xp pro with IIS installed which i am using as a virtual server to test dynamic websites i am creating. My company email account is hosted by easily, which i have the username, password and server details in outlook so i can receive my mail through that.

Does that make more sense?

I think we've identified the problem.  You need to know what language you are using and if mail has been enabled.  When using the Developer Toolkit, it is intended to be used on a public server.

oh i see, the pages i have created are in ASP, i tried putting in my email service providers details but still didnt work

Right.  Your hosted email is not accessible to the server.  You need to configure the mail settings on the local side in a way that ASP can access via IIS.  I don't know what those are, though...I'm almost exclusively a PHP developer.

If you are trying to send email from your computer check Windows Firewall to see if it allows your SMTP protocol to send stuff.
Another point to note is that when you go live you should ensure the hosting company will allow you to send email in this fashion.
Fasthosts in England don't allow windows hosting the luxury of sending email so you might want to switch to Linux and use PHP
