I'm using Dreamweaver CS4 and would like to play an flv video when I roll over a thumbnail. But I don't see a way to start the video with the thumbnail rollover, and I don't see a way to suppress the controls of the video player. That is, I don't want to see play and pause buttons. I just want a small window that plays the video when the thumbnail is rolled over and goes away when the mouse moves away from the thumbnail.

When you roll over 9309970 (second from left on top row) an 11 second video pops up instantly of the BBQ with a flame flickering beneath the grill.

After reviewing that URL further I was thinking that maybe you could use something similar to a movie avatar (like folks use in forums)
Here is a example of how to create one. You could then tweak the size of the .gif to suit your needs and have that be the rollover result to your still(Or thumbnail) on your page.

It discusses Progressive download video (as you didn't want this type) vs. Streaming video (where it appears Adobe Flash Media Server is needed.
Right.That puts an flv into your web page from Dreamweaver, but with a player that has controls. I need to get rid of the controls and then have the "Play" start when you roll over a thumbnail. I imagine I'm going to end up with some javascript for the thumbnail image, something like
<img src="thumbnail.jpg" onmouseover="javascript: [call flv player with .flv name and parameters to autoplay with no controls )">
But I don't know how to call the flv player yet from javascript and pass it the right parameters.

What you may be able to do is use Lightbox, or some variation, like Thickbox and then modify it to show only on mouseover.

I've created some small ones a while back, but used several images in a loop rather then as a video. However, I didn't use DreamWeaver, so I'll look a bit more, but have found these two that may help:
