Question

Dreamweaver Form Checkbox Results

Asked by: nsitedesigns

I set up a simple form using Dreamweaver CS4 and inserted a "checkbox group" into the form.  I am testing form now and when I test the form, I select ALL checkboxes.  The resulting email only shows one item.  Is it because it is a checkbox group?  Ideally, I want someone to be able to check all boxes on this form and have the results returned showing all checkbox items.

If you change the input names to match the ids, you'll get separate values in the email.

by: nsitedesignsPosted on 2009-11-07 at 15:04:47ID: 25768504

I changed the input name to match the name of the checkbox.  However, when I did that, the resulting email just listed the products name twice instead of having the product prefaced by what checking it meant.  I have attached how it looks now and how I I would like it to look.

ChainLube: ChainLube
Enforcer: Enforcer
GearOil: GearOil
IndustrialLube: IndustrialLube
MotorOIl: MotorOIl
PowershiftTO4: PowershiftTO4
RacingOil: RacingOil
SE100: SE100
SE1000: SE1000
Submit: Submit
SupremeTorque: SupremeTorque
a_Name: pattie5
b_Phone: 444-444-4444
c_Email: pattie@wi.rr.com
d_Comments: test 5

Ideally, I would like the resulting email to read:

Product: ChainLube
Product: Enforcer
Product: GearOil
Product: IndustrialLube
Product: MotorOIl
Product: PowershiftTO4
Product: RacingOil
Product: SE100
Product: SE1000
Submit: Submit
Product: SupremeTorque
a_Name: pattie5
b_Phone: 444-444-4444
c_Email: pattie@wi.rr.com
d_Comments: test 5

Unfortunately HTML specifications can't accomodate what you want. If you want all the inputs to have the same name, then the value for all of those inputs will be the value of the last input of that name (your original problem).

Unchecked checkboxes are not included in the field/value pairs when the form is submitted, so really, all you need is an empty string as the value and the list the input names will imart the required info.

Again, this is a limitation of html checkboxes. If you want the email formatted the ideal way, you'l have change the php processing script (/gdform.php). An example of such scripting is below and would output in the desired manner: -

<?php
//error handling (comment out for production use)
ini_set('error_reporting',E_ALL);
ini_set('display_errors',1);
//change these values to your desired email addresses
$email_to = 'user@domain.com';
$email_from = 'noRepy@domain.com';
if(!empty($_POST['Submit'])) {
	$arr_products = $_POST['products'];
	$url_redirect = $_POST['redirect'];
	$subject = $_POST['subject'];
	$name = $_POST['a_Name'];
	$phone = $_POST['b_Phone'];
	$email = $_POST['c_Email'];
	$comments = $_POST['d_Comments'];

	$msg = "$subject\n\n";
	$msg .= "Name: $name\n";
	$msg .= "Phone: $phone\n";
	$msg .= "Email: $email\n\n";

	if(is_array($_POST['products'])) {
		foreach($arr_products as $product) {
			$msg .= "Product: $product\n";
		}
	}

	$send_email = mail($email_to,$subject,$msg,"From: $email_from\n");
	header("Location: $url_redirect");
}

Thanks for all your hard work.  I gave your points just  on your efforts alone!

However, I figured out a way to modify the html to display the products by removing them from the checkbox group and placing them in a table.  I then changed the input name of each product to a-product, b-product, c-product, etc until all products were renamed with an alpha character.  This seemed to do the trick.
