Question

FTP upload in dreamweaver 2004

Asked by: docvirgo

Dear all,

This used to work ok but it hasnt been used for a long time. When trying to upload an html file to an ftp site, we click up arrow(put) and for some reason it tries connecting to our editing folder which is local on c drive. I can see ftp on right hand side but how to do i upload to it. Has it changed default ftp to local drive for some reason?

Hi docvirgo,

Check your Site settings.  Make sure the local site, remote site, and testing server are all set up correctly.

It sounds like you may have switched the view on the Files panel to Testing Server...check that too.

Hi Jason,

The settings seem ok, when i click on ftp i do connect to the site, but its the uploading that seems to switch to local and it now gives an error about not being able to determine the time on server.

Thanks

Delete the site definition and recreate it.

Hi Jason just done that,

I have setup a new site called edit with local pointing to network h: drive and remote pointing to the ftp where data needs to be uploaded. When click on test it connects to ftp ok, then when i select the file to be uploaded i get the following:

Dreamweaver cannot determine the remote server time. The select Newer and Synchronise commands will not be available. After clicking ok i get and ftp error occured- cannot put sponsorship.html access denied. The file may not exist or there could be a permission problem. But when i click test it connects to ftp ok.

Test just connects to the FTP server and verifies the username and password is correct.  It sounds like the remote server is having some issues.  Check to make sure all services are running and happy.
