Mail will not link to firefox in emails

whenever I click an internet link from a n email message in Windows mail I get an error message such as "Windows cannot find http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=110221121339&ssPageName=ADME:B:DBS:GB:1123" (or whatever the webpage reference is), however the page does then open normally in my default browser, Firefox.
It would appear that Windows mail is still looking to use Explorer, even though I have deactivated it.
The link is eventually recognised by Firefox ie it opens anyway (and I have no doubt that if I set Explorer to be my default browser it would be recognised), I just wanted to know if there was a way round this error message, what can be done about it?
