If you want to make it editable like the buttons that came with dreamweaver...
You will find the flash button library here:

C:\Program Files\Macromedia\Dreamweaver 4\Configuration\Flash Objects

you can put your flashmovie in the flash buttons folder. You can put the preview flash buttons preview folder.

If you mean simply putting a .swf image in your library. SImply drag it into the dreamweaver design window. It will automatically be updated into your library.

Thanks navaspy. After you wrote I googled .swt and I be darned if there wasn't a whole macromedia page about our question. I had tried querying the search function of dreamweaver about every way I thought would work to not avail. But following your advice I peeked into the \flash objects folder where there resided .swt files. The problem I am having now is that using the export moive fuction of Flash MX doesn't allow me to save the movie as *.swt. When I search the FlashMX help it doesn't know what .swt is and doesn't respond kindly to generator templates search. Is it possible I don't have a full enough verison of FlashMX?

This one is pretty easy. From flash, go to File> Save As> yourfilename.SWT . Saving as that will automatically export the movie into .swt format.

Excuse the multiple posting, but I only submitted once! As to the "save as" it doesn't work.  If I open the file as a .swf I  am not allowed to save or save as.  I opened the file as .fla and then tried saving as .swt and got *.swt.fla.

i havent a clue what an ".swt" file is. Just take your file in .swf format, and put it into :
C:\Program Files\Macromedia\Dreamweaver 4\Configuration\Flash Objects\Flash Buttons

I think the .swt is for the preview format, but thats not neccesary, if you put it in that folder. Now when you use dreamweaver to make a flash button ... Walah! it's there!

oops, nevermind. I just tried it out and it didnt work right.

As I understand it the swf file is the one that allows preview, but the swt file acts a template that can be modified in DW.  I search all over Macromedia's for information about building buttons and could find anything about swt.  If you look in the directroy C:\Program Files\Macromedia\Dreamweaver 4\Configuration\Flash Objects\Flash Buttons you will notice that it contains ONLY .swt files while the \Flash Preview contains the .swf files.  RE: http://www.macromedia.com/support/dreamweaver/assets/flashbutton/flashbutton04.html
The problem is that my MX version doesn't do what the above document says it is supposed to do!! %-[

if you are one of the lucky people who have the early editions of flash 4 or 5 WITH the GENERATOR plug-in, you can export as .swt

(you can export as .swt with Flash 4 or 5, but Generator is needed to imbed the parameters in the .swt that are editable in Dreamweaver- text size, font,...)

macromedia discontinued Generator, and they didn't seem to make anything to replace it. i don't know why.

you can scour the internet to try and find old software for sale. perhaps you'll get lucky.

there is a program called "jGenerator" that claims to be able to do it, but i haven't looked into it.

happy hunting, and prepare for a frusterating search!
